Reporting a claim as soon as it happens is the best solution for getting needed medical care and other claim related assistance to injured workers. Best practices in workers’ compensation include prompt investigation of all accidents and incidents. The accuracy and speed of claim adjusting, delivery of medical care, and prompt remediation of unsafe working conditions elevates when supervisors stay involved. Finding fault is not the purpose of an investigation but rather to prevent reoccurrence of an incident and create awareness of problem areas. The MSGIA stresses the need for immediate reporting of claims to the employer and to the MSGIA. State guidelines set 6 days as the outside limit for reporting a work place incident by the employer.
The MSGIA can receive a claim notice via mail or fax. We will need a First Report of Injury Form (FROI) completed, signed by both the employer and the employee, and sent to us by regular US mail at PO Box 7029, Helena MT 59604-7029 or faxed to us at 406.457.4505.
